Description

A place full of life.

In the Middle Ages, in the west of France, the word Cohue meant marketplace. In the centre of the enclosed city of Vannes, the Cohue belonged to the duke of Brittany, one of the main lords of the city.

Certified from the thirteenth century, it had a unique aisle (the present central vessel) and housed the merchants of the city. Two centuries later, the ducal justice court is built on the upper floor.

During its exile between 1675 and 1689 the parliament of Brittany had held its sessions there. The Cohue houses today permanent collections and the exhibitions of the Fine Arts museum of Vannes.
