Description

The great dame of Toulouse.

The Cathedral of Saint-Etienne in Toulouse is an unusual church, as its construction spanned five centuries, from the 13th to the 17th century, during which its architectural design was radically transformed. You enter the cathedral by the Nave, known as the Raymondine Nave, which is built in a Southern European Gothic style, with its large single nave. The second part of the building is made up of a large choir and was built in Northern European Gothic style, to rival the greatest cathedrals.
The cathedral houses interesting decorative features, including stained glass windows, tapestries, paintings, a large rose window, a magnificent grand organ set 17 metres high, and 17 side chapels.
