Description

Monet's cathedral.

Located in the heart of the city of Rouen, on the right bank of the Seine, the tall silhouette of the Notre-Dame Cathedral of Rouen dominates the city. The Gothic cathedral was built from the mid-12th century, replacing the Roman cathedral (the crypt was preserved). A hundred years later, the cathedral had been completed but it was modified and enhanced many times over the course of the following centuries.
The Cathedral of Notre-Dame houses, in the ambulatory and Chapelle de la Vierge, some famous tombs, and gisants or tomb sculptures, including those of Rollon, the first duke of Normandy and Richard the Lionheart.
