Description

The Louvre comes to Lens.

In 2003, experts at the Louvre Museum in Paris began planning a new project. This was to be the Louvre Museum in Lens (or "Louvre-Lens") which opened in Opened on 12 December 2012. The town of Lens, a cultural crossroads in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region was chosen to be the location for the Louvre's newest site. On a former mining site, this institution is set against a backdrop of history.

The project's architects, Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa of Sanaa agency have designed five buildings which resemble "boats on a river" which have been strung together.

The Gallery of Time (120m long), Glass Pavilion, Temporary exhibitions gallery (1 800m ²) and the La Scene scenic space (3 600m ²) are all spaces to discover at this extraordinary glass museum building, which can also connects you with different parts of the town of Lens. At this exciting new space in Lens, visitors will have the opportunity to admire masterpieces so far only exhibited in Paris.
