Description

Neo Flemish architecture.

Inaugurated in 1925, the belfry of Calais overlooks the town and the Town Hall (Hôtel de ville) from its great height of 75 metres. Designed in a neo-Flemish style by architect Louis Debrouwer of Dunkirk, the Town Hall and belfry are both built around a reinforced concrete structure. Red bricks and white stones cover this raw material and give the lines and volumes and delicate air of this public building. Since 2005, the belfry has been classified as a World Heritage monument by Unesco.
