Additional Information

Description

Italian art in Avignon.

Cardinal Bérenger Fredoli the Elder built a vast residence in around 1318–1320. After building works, Pope Benedict XII transferred the Episcopal see here in 1335.
The Musée du Petit Palais, a former archbishop’s palace, houses the biggest selection outside Italy of Italian primitives from the collection of Giampietro Campana: alongside Botticelli, Carpaccio and Giovanni di Paolo, over 300 works plot the history of art from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance.
The Calvet Museum houses paintings and sculptures from the School of Avignon.
