Description

It revived the genre.

The ten tapestries from the "Chant du Monde" by Jean Lurçat (1892-1966) which marked the revival of the genre in the 20th century are exhibited in the old St-Jean hospital (12th century). The donations by Lurçat and Thomas Gleb, composed of works from the first half of the 20th century, are on show in the old orphanage (17th century).

An important illustration of Gothic architecture in the south-west of France, the St-Jean hospital is one of the last examples, remarkably preserved, of the great hospital organisations created in the 12th century; today it counts as one of the exceptional monuments of Angevin heritage.
