Description

An overview of the work of David d'Angers.

In 1984, François Mitterrand inaugurated the David d'Angers Gallery in the renovated Toussaint Abbey, dedicated to French sculptor David d'Angers.
In the choir of the abbey, the mezzanine brings you face to face with the figures of the Romantic period with 44 busts in various materials.

One hundred bronze medallions in a display case presents vivid portraits of the Romantic generation (George Sand, Rouget de l'Isle, Goethe ...). In the nave you will see 23 monumental statues, Jean Bart for Dunkirk, Gutenberg for Strasbourg, and so on, as well as the majestic Marquis de Bonchamps.
In the choir, you will find works of smaller dimensions and also some early works.
In the windows are 47 statuettes and preparatory drawings, showing the evolution of creative thought of the sculptor David d'Angers.
