Alençon is a town of the Orne county in Lower Normandy cut by the Sarthe river. With most constructions in granite, from local quarries, Alençon boasts a rich and homogenous architectural heritage (the local château, as well as the town hall, is a fine example).

Yet, above all else, Alençon is known for its prized lacework, a tradition which goes back to the 17th century. Discover all there is to know about local lace production at the Beaux-Arts de la Dentelle museum.
